Description –

Aloo (Potatoes) and matar (peas) goes very well together and makes a great combination. This recipe of aloo matar is tempered with spices making it a flavourful and tasty. This can be made with very less ingredients and is easy to prepare.

Preparation Time – 10 Mins
Cooking Time – 15 Mins

• Aloo (potatoes) – 2 medium size
• Peeled Peas (matar) – ½ Cup
• Cumin Seeds – 1/2 Tsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1/2 Tsp
• Red chilli powder – 1 Tsp
• Turmeric Powder- 1 Tsp
• Amchur(Dry mango powder) Powder – 1 Tsp
• Coriander Powder- 1 Tsp
• Asafetida – ¼ Tsp
• Salt to taste
• Oil – 1 Tbsp
• Coriander leaves to garnish (optional)

Method –

• Wash and peel aloo. Cut them into ½ inch cubes.
• Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafetida, turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Make sure the oil is not too hot to burn the spices.
• Add peas (matar) and aloo (potato) and mix well. Cover and cook for about 5-6 mins.
• Add salt and amchur powder and mix well.
• Cover and cook on low flame till done.
• Garnish with coriander.(optional)
• Serve with hot rotis. (Missi roti recipe), (Masala Puri), (Beetroot Puri)

Tips and Tricks –
• Cooks best in a heavy bottom or a non-stick pan/kadai.
• Always adjust spices as per your taste.
• Covering the lid makes cooking faster.
• Use of fresh peas gives a better taste. If not available, frozen peas can also be used.
