Description –

Misal Pav is a popular street food of Maharashtra. Spiced with specially prepared maharashtrian misal masala or goda masala, easily available in grocery shops. This recipe is prepared with moong sprouts, matki usal or mixed sprouts, topped with farsan, chopped onion and served with pav.

Preparation Time – 5-10 Mins
Cooking Time – 25 Mins

Ingredients –
• Whole Moong (green gram) sprouts – 1 Cup
• Matki sprouts – ½ Cup
• Finely Chopped Onion – 1/4 Cup
• Finely Chopped Tomatoes – ½ Cup
• Red chili powder – 1 Tsp
• Misal Masala or Goda Masala – 1 Tsp
• Turmeric Powder – 1/8 Tsp
• Water – 2 Cups or as required
• Oil – 2 Tbsp
• Salt to taste
For Garnish –
• Lemon juice – 1 Tbsp
• Finely Chopped Onion – ½ Cup
• Finely Chopped Coriander – 2 Tbsp
For Serving –
• 6-8 Pavs/Buns
• Farsan – 1 Cup

Method –
• Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add finely chopped onion and cook on a medium flame till translucent.
• Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook till soft.
• Add turmeric powder, salt, misal masala and red chili powder. Mix well and cook till oil starts to separate from the mixture.
• Add moong sprouts and matki sprouts. Mix well.
• Add water and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
• Open the lid only after the steam/pressure is released by itself.
• Check the consistency and add water if required and simmer for about 4-5 mins with an open lid to get the perfect consistency.
• While serving add spoonful of misal to serving bowl. Add farsan, garnish with finely chopped onion, coriander and lemon juice.
• Serve misal with pav accompanied with finely chopped onion and halved lemon.
