Mythical Masalas

Mythical Masalas

Famous for its food festivals, Eighty Eight has come up yet again with new food fest ‘Mythical Masalas’, which is unique in itself. The ‘Mythical Masalas’ to get back to basics and relish on old and ever gold lost recipes of India. As they say, nothing can cure better than Mom’s food in this world. Recipes featured in this food fest were selectively gathered from across the country.

To go through what I had this time –

Thaalagam Kootu

Thaalagam Kootu

Thaalagam Kootu – A unique yet simple preparation of steamed vegetables with asafetida, curry leaves, tamarind and jaggery. This gave a sweet, sour and tangy taste to the dish, which I have never tried before.

Phindi Miriyam – Seasonal fried vegetables cooked in urad dal with jeera and coconut paste. Simple preparation yet delicious.

Kalyana Mor Kuzhanbhu

Kalyana Mor Kuzhanbhu

Kalyana Mor Kuzhanbhu – Fried bonda dipped in yogurt-based gravy from Kanyakumari & Tirunelveli district. At first glance, this looked like kadhi-pakoda to me. However, it was something different to try, all the way from South. Mildly flavored curry with bondas tasted good with laccha paratha.

Gobhi Dhantel ki Sabzi

Gobhi Dhantel ki Sabzi

Paratha

Paratha

Gobhi Dhantel ki Sabzi – The most simplistic preparation of cauliflower. Rich in fiber and goes well with roti.

After having stuffed enough there was no space left in my tummy to check out the buffet menu and hence, I headed to the dessert section.

Carrot Cake

Carrot Cake

A huge spread of dessert is always fascinating. Tried a few things, which were delicious, and Mud cake deserves a special mention for sure. What – Mythical Masalas – The Lost Recipes, Food Festival
